Overview

If you decide to visit the western part of Georgia you definitely should visit Kutaisi. Kutaisi is the capital of the western region of Imereti. Historically one of the major cities of Georgia, it served as the capital of the Kingdom of Georgia in the middle ages, and later as the capital of the Kingdom of Imereti., and its 3rd most populous city. It is 221 kilometres (137 miles) away from Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia and is full of sightseeing.

The western part of Georgia is famous for its hospitality and delicious dishes. Imeretian Khachapuri, maze-bread, Imeretian cheese and so on and so forth. Imereti and particularly Kutaisi is very famous for its well forming locals. Bagrati Cathedral- built-in 1003, during the reign of Bagrat III (975-1014), in Kutaisi, on the hill of Ukimerioni. The monument is a temple of landmark importance in the Georgian medieval church architecture, both with its architectural solution, as well as its historical and symbolic significance.

Sataplia Caves - Jurassic Park where one can observe footprints of dinosaurs is named after Sataplia Mountain, which gained its name from the local tradition of collecting honey from the bees that inhabit the mountain’s southern slope. Sataplia means ‘place of honey. Sataplia Cave is 900 meters long, 10 meters high and 12 m. wide. 

Prometheus Cave, which is one of Georgia’s natural wonders, has many underground rivers in it. It was discovered in 1984. You can enjoy the 280-meter boat tour on the underground lake in the cavern. It includes various types of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, and lakes. Besides those major landmarks which are included in this tour, you can visit Bagrati Cathedral, built by Bagrat III, king of Georgia, in the early 11th century.
